Grab

The client 

Grab is a prominent technology company based in Singapore. They provide a variety of services including ride-hailing, food delivery and digital payments to customers throughout Southeast Asia. 

They’re committed to empowering their drivers and delivery partners to grow and develop their careers and provide them with all the tools and resources they need to achieve this. Because of this, they have established the Grab Academy, a platform that offers upskilling and training opportunities to their partners. 

The digital agency BlueCube worked with Grab to build the application for their new site but required a partner who could build and support the infrastructure. 

The challenge 

Grab required a completely new site to be built for this platform. The new site needed to be secure and highly scalable, with the ability to handle high levels of traffic while ensuring all of their partner’s information was well-protected against any security threats. 

The issue of security was even more pressing for Grab as the Singapore government released a mandate requiring all large companies operating in Singapore to implement stringent security measures to protect data. As a result, Grab required a partner who could not only manage the infrastructure build and application support but also build a site that would meet these standards. 

Grab operates 24/7 to provide their services to customers throughout the region, so the site needs to remain accessible at all times. Therefore a support partner who could operate and monitor the infrastructure and application around the clock was essential. 

BlueCube came to Just After Midnight after seeing our previous work with infrastructure builds on AWS such as Powertrade and GajiGesa. As well as our expertise in providing application support services. 

The solution

We provisioned the new Grab Academy portal on AWS to provide a cost-effective solution that could offer the most optimal performance. AWS provides a reliable and scalable platform which is exactly what Grab was looking for. Our deep expertise of AWS builds allowed us to efficiently build and deploy the new site within a week. 

We utilised Terraform to deploy the secure site. Terraform provides prepackaged scripts which work well with AWS and follow the best practices for AWS servers. This ensures a secure site and that there are no potential vulnerabilities that could put Grab’s partner information at risk. 

Grab’s main site uses WordPress, for this reason, we built their new infrastructure around WordPress allowing for consistent branding, easier content management and cost savings on licenses and training. 

As a 24/7 support provider, we were able to support Grab’s infrastructure and application round the clock. Making sure the portal remains accessible and secure at all times. This level of support is critical to Grab so they can offer their services consistently. 

The results

• Successfully provisioned a new site for Grab within 1 week. 
• The new site is secure and has the ability to handle larger amounts of traffic 
• Provided a cost-effective solution for Grab
